Statement by the President on Truth and Reconciliation Day

Today, on Sep 30, we remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors, as well as their families and communities.

Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Today is also Orange Shirt Day, which honours the story of Phyllis Webstad, a former residential school student who had her orange shirt taken away on her first day at a residential school.

Affiliates are encouraged to wear orange for the day as an act of solidarity with our indigenous friends.
